The National Gem and Jewellery Authority (NGJA) is a government agency in Sri Lanka responsible for the regulation and promotion of the gem and jewelry industry in the country. Established in 1971, the NGJA aims to develop and protect the gem and jewelry industry by implementing policies and regulations, promoting best practices and standards, conducting research and development, and providing training and certification programs for industry professionals.
The NGJA is responsible for issuing licenses to gem and jewelry traders, manufacturers, and exporters, as well as monitoring and regulating their activities to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. The agency also operates gem testing laboratories to verify the authenticity and quality of gemstones and jewelry, and provides certification services for industry professionals.
In addition to its regulatory functions, the NGJA plays a key role in promoting Sri Lanka’s gem and jewelry industry globally. The agency participates in international exhibitions and trade shows, provides marketing and promotional services to industry players, and facilitates international business partnerships and collaborations.
